Creating Something Different

Use your Imagination and go create…

The Patina Factory – making your own style!

The perfect patina truck is getting hard to find, and when you do they cost the earth due to the supply and demand of such a vehicle. Due to this we need to find a way of either improving some of the not so desired patina vehicles out there or possibly even making one look that way with faux styling.

So we have decided to work on stying patina with paint and making our own version of patina on a truck – paint-ina!

There are many advantages with this method, creating you own look, not as stressful as perfect paint, easily repaired, work on a no rust basis.

The method of completing this look is not straight forward and consists of multiple layers of different colours of paint and different levels of the paint removal leaving the desired look in the desired place on the panel. We also utilise the art of air brushing in a small way too and finally we have introduced a few special touches which we feel assists in the final look… Stay tuned to find out more…

One of the hard challenges here is matching an already patina truck with some faux patina. This can be done simular to a modern repair as in you will need to blend into the side panels of the repair panel. All totally doable and can be made to be un-noticable at first glance.

Lots of these truck that are in a pre-restored condition need new patch panels or need metal work repairs on them to get rid of the rusty areas or rusty patches within the truck or specific panel.

Although this kind of repair work can be daunting enough as it is, it is often made worse by the fact that you need to match the old patina on the truck to keep it looking in the original patina style that you want to keep…

This is when you need to match patina with the fake style paint to keep it all good…

Here you see that we have now carried out repairs to our “Garfield Fire Truck” as far as the metal work is concerned… Now to match the patina paint effect.

To match the patina effect you will need to start off with getting some paint mixed up to the closet possible match you can. You will need to find the best colour match point on the vehicle and clean that up and take to the local paint shop. Then you will need to play with the layers of paint to blend in the best possible patina match.

We use a mixture of browns, reds, and also the vehicle colours…

Its very important not to over paint it in all the excitement…
